We are all familiar with pain. It hurts!

More specifically, pain is a physiological response of the nervous system that occurs when the body is harmed. From a stubbed toe to a sunburn, the resulting pain communicates to us to avoid that stimulus in the future, and that the site of the pain requires attention.

For your body’s emergency response - pain is the call and inflammation is the answer.

Inflammation is a natural, complex biological response to injury or infection that rushes to the scene to fight off foreign invaders, protect tissue and begin repair. It can take many forms: heat, discomfort, redness, swelling and under normal circumstances, inflammation is essential to healing – however uncomfortable.

But it can become problematic when the body believes it is being threatened even when it’s not and continues to produce inflammatory compounds.

Chronic pain and inflammation can interfere with quality of life and those suffering from it are eager to find relief. Long-term inflammation is not only uncomfortable, researchers have identified chronic inflammation as an underlying factor in many forms of disease.

NSAIDS

For many, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – or NSAIDs – are a common go-to for pain management.  They provide temporary relief from pain and inflammation by blocking the production of certain inflammatory chemicals (prostaglandins) in the body.

Like any medication, long term NSAID use has the potential for side effects that may include:

  • Increased risk for cardiovascular issues (heart attacks, strokes, and heart-related deaths).
  • Stomach problems ranging from mild upset to ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Issues with the lining of the stomach and intestines and imbalances of beneficial gut bacteria.

Risks for these side effects increase with the amount of time NSAIDs are taken, which can be an issue when dealing with chronic pain and inflammation.

Curcumin Plus and Turmeric Plus by St Francis Herb Farm

Nature’s answer to inflammation

Certain herbs and plants contain natural compounds that can stand up to the tough task of relieving pain and inflammation. For thousands of years, plant preparations have been used as tonics, poultices, brews, and compounds to aid healing and treat pain.

One particularly effective natural pain-relieving plant that has gained a lot of attention is Turmeric.

Turmeric is the root of a flowering plant native to India and south east Asia where it has long been used in traditional medicine and cooking. It has a signature bright golden colour that comes from certain compounds, known as curcuminoids – the most powerful of which is curcumin, which makes up 2-5% of turmeric.

Curcumin has potent anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe pain and quench inflammation naturally. It is also rich in antioxidants that offer cellular protection, has been shown to be protective to the liver and is also safe for long term use.

Harnessing turmeric’s unique characteristics, we crafted a targeted herbal formula that can help to relieve pain and inflammation throughout the body.

Turmeric Plus tincture is founded on the powerful benefits of turmeric, but also includes a synergistic blend of complimentary antioxidant-rich and inflammation-fighting herbs including:

  • boswellia - traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine, it contains an active compound that inhibits an enzyme involved in inflammation.
  • ginger - used as a folk medicine for centuries, ginger has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and digestive benefits.
  • green tea - contains a high concentration of powerfully antioxidant polyphenols and exhibits a free-radical scavenging action.
  • holy basil - revered in Ayurvedic tradition as a rasayana, i.e. a tonic that promotes a long, healthy life.
  • Oregon grape - contains the compound berberine, that exhibits both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Not only do you get the benefits of turmeric, but the combination of natural, traditional herbs offers wide-ranging effectiveness that maximizes the formula’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

The tincture preparation allows the body to quickly absorb the spectrum of active herbal ingredients and the absorption of specific anti-inflammatory compounds of turmeric are further enhanced by the addition of black pepper.

Made from Certified Organic/wildcrafted herbs, Turmeric Plus can effectively address the underlying causes of inflammatory pain and help prevent chronic inflammation.

A holistic approach towards any health concern always considers contributing lifestyle factors. Exposure to environmental toxins, and highly processed, high-sugar diets can feed the fires of chronic inflammation in the body.

Making the shift to a low-inflammation diet rich in fresh produce, healthy fats and whole foods, can help support the body and reduce symptoms. As can managing stress, moving mindfully with an appropriate fitness routine and avoiding toxins in the diet and environment.

Broad spectrum, herbal support from Turmeric Plus is a simple and effective way to get relief from ongoing pain and discomfort without the worry of side effects.

*Anyone presently on medication for inflammatory conditions should discuss lifestyle and medications with their health care practitioner and we recommend that you consult a health care practitioner for use beyond 6 weeks.
